This fish is a great all round, low fat, low calorie meal that you can prepare for any occasion. You can prepare it for a hearty, five course meal or as part of a delicious buffet that includes vegetables, meat, cheeses and dips. Even when the weather is cold and freezing, you can still cook tilapia with these easy, yet delicious recipes. Here are some of our favorite ways to cook tilapia:

Baked Tilapia – If you like your food served raw, you will love this baked tilapia recipe. All you have to do is brush the fish with olive oil, add herbs and seasonings, bake in the oven until crisp and then serve on a hot, basting buns with lemon wedges. Make sure to use fresh herbs and seasonings. You can also substitute tuna instead of salmon for the basis of this meal.

Southern style Cooking – Get cooking with the south by incorporating sweet potatoes, corn, sweet peas and black eye peas into your frying pan along with garlic, onion powder, cayenne pepper and salt to taste. When the veggies are bright red in color, turn the heat up to medium high. Add the fish and cook through till cooked. Serve with a generous amount of your favorite vegetable toppings, such as crisp, fresh vegetables, lemon slices, crunchy fresh herbs, crunchy fresh fruits, served on top of your baked tilapia.

Grilled Tilapia – Using precut, bagged grilling fish fillets as your fish source is the easiest way to prepare tilapia for grilling. You can serve this dish with a creamy lemon butter sauce. Start by washing the fish fillets and slice them crosswise, allowing the slices to fall into the pan. Place the fillets on one side of the pan and add butter to one corner. Allow the butter to melt and brown the edges of the fish.

Flip and cook tilapia on the other side until they are almost completely done. Add salt to taste and cover the fillets over and let simmer for about five minutes. Check for doneness with a toothpick. At this point, you can carve into the fish using a knife or your hand. Flip, remove the knife and shred the flake using your hands or a processor. Season to taste with lemon pepper, salt and pepper to taste.

Fish Meal With Desserts – Another great way to cook tilapia for a full meal is to use fish and seafood as your main ingredients. Purchase or make your own shrimp, fish, chips or fish sticks and marinate your ingredients for about half an hour. In a large frying pan, combine your ingredients and cook for about two minutes. Flip and cook for about five minutes more. When your shrimp is done, use a dip dish and drizzle over your favorite curry sauce. Allow the dip to cool and enjoy your meal.

Steamed Fish With Salads – A great way to get more from your cooked seafood meal is to steam it. If you have a cast iron skillet, you can sear your fish before adding them to your veggies. If not, simply cook your fish and veggies together in a separate skillet until they are translucent and coated with butter. Then, place them on top of your steamed greens and enjoy your new meal!

Traditional accompaniments for fish include onions, garlic, ginger, dill and lemon. Other spices you might consider adding are thyme, oregano, curry powder, coconut oil, paprika, cayenne pepper and salt. These spices add unique flavors to your tilapia and allow you to modify the classic taste of the fish.
